How to choose a white marble
What varies most from one slab to another. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the space and we will suggest two or three options.
- Fine gray veining or bold veining
Carrara has a fine, even gray pattern. Calacatta and Statuario have a whiter background and bolder veins, which is why they draw more attention.
- White with gold
Calacatta Oro and Calacatta Macchia Vecchia add gold and beige tones to the gray veining. They pair well with gold faucets and light wood.
- White with almost no veins
If you want a bright white surface, Thassos is the whitest in the catalog and has almost no pattern.

Questions about white marble
What is the difference between Carrara marble and Calacatta?
Both are white marbles from Italy. Carrara is a grayish white with a fine, soft gray pattern. Calacatta has a whiter background and thicker veins, gray or gold, and usually costs more.
Does white marble work in the kitchen?
Yes, but you need to know how it ages: it scratches more easily than granite, and lemon or vinegar dulls it even when sealed. In a lappato finish those marks show less. If the countertop will get heavy use, look at white quartzite as well.
Which marble is the whitest?
In the catalog, Thassos: a white background with almost no veins. Next come Statuario and some Calacatta, with a very white background and gray veining.
