Red travertine finishes

On travertine the finish changes the shine and the feel; the pores are a separate choice: filled for a smooth surface, open for a rustic look.

  • Polished

The shine in the photo: a smooth surface where a lemon mark stays visible.

  • Honed

Matte; in wet areas it slips less than polished.

  • Brushed

Without the shine of polish; with open pores it goes on facades and pool coping.

  • Antiqued

Textured surface with open pores: the rustic version for facades, walls and pool coping.

Questions about red travertine

Is red travertine a marble?

No. Travertine is a limestone born in hot springs; its pores are gas bubbles trapped as the stone formed. Marble has no pores: it is compact. If you want a smooth surface, order it with filled pores; the rustic look comes with open pores.

How is it different from Arabescato Rosso marble?

Both carry horizontal bands in red and cream tones. In the Arabescato Rosso photo the bands are wavy and brick red, with a gray and black band on top; in the red travertine photo they run straight and dense over an orange-red background. Another difference: Arabescato Rosso is compact marble; travertine shows its natural pores.

Does red travertine work as a kitchen countertop?

With conditions. Acids mark its polish just like marble: lemon or wine leave marks on the orange-red. If those marks bother you, look at other kitchen stones.

Are Travertino Rosso and red travertine the same stone?

Yes. Travertino Rosso is another way of writing red travertine: the name changes, the stone does not.

Is the red travertine photo a real slab?

It's real: the photo shows a slab of this travertine with its polish and banding as they are. Every slab is different. Before you buy, we send photos of the slabs available for your order. We ship to any country, with the stone's origin documents and CE certification.
