Palissandro marble

Marble · Italy

Fine parallel gray stripes cross a grayish white background on the diagonal: that is Palissandro marble. A marble with a calm pattern that performs in bathrooms, walls and home floors. Before cutting, you choose the slab from photos.

What Palissandro marble looks like

Fine parallel gray strokes cross the grayish white background of the slab on the diagonal. The veining is medium density, and white, light gray and a very light beige share the pattern. With low contrast, the strokes read soft against the background. The photo shows the polished finish, an even sheen that returns light to the pale background. Within this slab the pattern stays uniform; every Palissandro slab is different and yours is chosen from photos.

The light background shows any stain more than a dark marble: seal the slab according to what it absorbs and wipe up spills right away.

Palissandro Marble finishes

Four finishes for the same pattern: what changes is how much the background shines and how the surface feels to the touch.

  • Polished

The one in the photo: an even sheen over the light background. For walls and dry areas; on wet floors, matte is better.

  • Honed

It takes away the polished mirror and adds grip: the finish for showers, bathrooms and floors.

  • Brushed

Less shine than polished and grip in traffic and wet areas: showers, stairs and home floors.

  • Antiqued

A softened tone and less shine: wear marks show less in traffic areas.

Questions about Palissandro marble

How do I tell Palissandro apart from Palissandro Blu?

By the background and the pattern. Palissandro Blu carries a soft blue-gray, with wavy lines and a sinuous rust-colored band; this Palissandro stays grayish white, with fine parallel gray strokes on the diagonal. Open the Palissandro Blu page and compare the two patterns.

How does Palissandro marble handle kitchen work?

With one condition: accepting that it takes a patina. Lemon or vinegar leave a dull mark on the polish. Granite stands up better to kitchen scratching. If your kitchen sees daily use, also ask for a quote on a quartzite, harder and marble-like; for light use, Palissandro works.

Does Palissandro marble need sealer?

It depends on what your slab absorbs: if a drop of water darkens it after a while, it needs sealing before you use it. For everyday cleaning, water with neutral soap and wiping up any acidic liquid right away. The light background works against you: a coffee stain shows more than on a dark marble.

Are the photo and the close-up of the same slab?

Yes: both shots are of one real Palissandro slab, the full view and the close-up. Every slab is different. Before you buy, we send photos of the slabs available for your order.
