Calacatta Viola marble

Marble · Italy

White fragments inside a dark violet web that closes toward the center: that is Calacatta Viola marble. With that high contrast, it goes mostly in bathrooms and on interior walls.

It is also known as Calacatta Violeta.

What Calacatta Viola marble looks like

A dense web of dark violet wraps white fragments and closes in over the center of the slab. The warm white background remains between the strands of the web, and dark gray appears inside the brecciated pattern. The contrast is high: the light pieces stand out, framed by the dark web. Within this slab the pattern changes sharply, always with the web denser toward the center. Because every slab is different, it is best to choose from a photo of each one.

Calacatta Viola marble finishes

Each finish changes how much the surface reflects and how strongly the violet web shows.

  • Polished

The finish with the most reflection: the violet looks deeper and the white fragments gain light.

  • Honed

Without reflection and soft to the touch: the violet web reads more subdued and the shower is less slippery.

  • Brushed

Brushing leaves a fine texture and a sheen halfway between polished and matte.

  • Antiqued

It removes the shine completely and gives the surface the air of aged stone.

Questions about Calacatta Viola Marble

Is Calacatta Violeta a different stone?

No. Calacatta Violeta is the translated form of this stone's trade name. On this page it appears as Calacatta Viola: white fragments inside a dark violet web.

What sets Calacatta Viola apart from Calacatta Antique?

Both are breccias of white fragments bonded by a dark matrix. On the Antique that matrix is intense coral red; on the Viola the web is dark violet and closes in toward the center. If you are torn between the two, ask for photos of the slabs and compare them before you decide.

Does Calacatta Viola work for a kitchen countertop?

It works, as long as you accept that years of use leave their mark on the surface. Lemon or wine acid burns the polish and leaves a dull patch; that mark is chemical and cleaning will not remove it. If you want a countertop that always stays intact, the stone for kitchens page has more tolerant stones.

What Care Does This Stone Need?

Clean it with water and pH-neutral soap, and wipe up acidic liquids right away. Sealer slows part of the absorption, not all of it: the water drop test tells you when to apply it again.

Can I order Calacatta Viola from any country?

We ship to any country, with the stone's documents of origin and its CE certification. On the shipping page we explain how it reaches each region.
