What Statuario marble looks like
A thick dark gray-green vein crosses the white background of the slab in the photo in diagonal, with fine gray veins that branch off. That gray-green on white gives high contrast. In this slab the veining varies noticeably. Every Statuario slab brings its own: you choose yours by looking at photos of the available slabs.

Statuario marble finishes
On Statuario, the finish defines the shine and feel of the surface: that decides where each piece belongs.
-
Polished
High shine and a smooth surface. It shows the dull marks acids leave, and it is slippery when the floor gets wet.
-
Honed
No shine or reflections; on a shower or bathroom floor it is less slippery than polished.
-
Brushed
A lightly textured surface with no shine; another matte option for bathroom floors.

Questions about Statuario marble
Are Statuario, Blanco Statuario, and Bianco Statuario the same?
Yes. Blanco Statuario and Bianco Statuario are other ways of writing Statuario: all three names are the same marble. The word changes, not the stone.
How does Statuario differ from Calacatta Oro?
In the vein color, once you compare photos. Calacatta Oro carries a marked golden ochre vein, also diagonal, with fine branching. On Statuario, the thick vein crossing in diagonal is gray-green, with fine branching gray veins.
Can a kitchen countertop be Statuario?
It can, if you accept that marble changes with use. On polished Statuario, lemon, vinegar or tomato leave a dull mark that is a chemical reaction, not dirt. The patina builds up on the countertop year after year. For a surface that stays the same, see the Marble or granite? guide: granite resists acids better.
Does Statuario need a sealer?
Sealing it is worthwhile, and it needs repeating over time. Its white background shows any stain more clearly, so the sealer is part of the care routine, although it does not make the marble waterproof. A drop of water on Statuario tells you: if the stone darkens, it is time to seal again.
