Natural stone for facades and walls

You choose the stone with your project's climate in mind, approve the real slabs in photos, and we coordinate the cutting with the layout of your facade or wall. We ship to any country, and when the project calls for it we also arrange installation.

Which stone works for walls and facades

An interior wall only has to look good. A facade also lives under rain, sun and salt: there, the density of the stone decides how long its finish lasts.

  • Roman travertine slab

    Travertine

    Holds up
Facades and walls alike, with a warm texture that sunlight brings out.
    Keep in mind
Its pores can be filled or open. On a facade, open pores collect dust, so order it filled or with a brushed finish.

  • Steel Grey granite slab

    Granite

    Holds up
Rain, sun and sea salt without losing its finish. It is the safest stone for the base of a building, where water and knocks land.
    Keep in mind
Its pattern is more even than a marble's. Outdoors it looks better flamed or brushed than polished.

  • Arabescato marble slab

    Marble

    Holds up
Interior walls, bathrooms and living room walls, where its veining becomes the focal point of the room.
    Keep in mind
Outdoors, white marble loses its polish in the rain. For a facade, another stone is the better choice.

Each country has its own word for it: revestimiento in Argentina and Uruguay, enchape in Chile, Peru and Colombia. In Mexico and Chile, muro is also used for the wall itself.

Stone for a ventilated facade: how each slab is held

On a facade the stone is not glued: it hangs from the wall on anchors and leaves air behind. Inside a home, a marble wall is laid out slab by slab so the vein continues.

  1. WallConcrete or block. It receives the anchors, so it is checked before choosing the system and the slab size.
  2. InsulationIt is fixed to the wall, and the stone protects it from sun and rain.
  3. Stainless steel anchorsThey hold each slab by its edges, in a groove cut into the stone itself. They are stainless because a rusting anchor stains the stone and loses strength.
  4. Air cavityA few centimeters between the insulation and the stone. Air rises through it and carries away heat and moisture, so the wall stays dry.
  5. 3 cm stone slabIt is the usual thickness on a ventilated facade: it takes the anchor groove without weakening the edge. The joints stay open a few millimeters so the air can circulate.
  6. BookmatchTwo consecutive slabs from the same block open like a book, and the vein mirrors across the joint. It works on interior marble and onyx walls.

3D and split face stone panels

Besides the smooth slab, a wall can carry relief. There are milled marble panels with waves or channels, and split face strips, with a split surface, that draw shadows in raking light. We do not keep them as a fixed catalog. We order them for your project in the stone you choose and show you the available options before quoting. Outdoors, split face works best in granite, quartzite or travertine.

Granite for exterior walls, marble and onyx for indoors

For a facade choose a dense stone: granite, travertine or some quartzites. White marble left to the weather loses its polish in the rain and, in thin slabs, can bow with temperature changes.

What natural stone for walls and facades costs

The stone and the layout weigh more than the square meters. A bookmatch needs consecutive slabs from the same block. A ventilated facade adds the anchors and the grooving of every slab.

Questions about stone facades and walls

For the terrace floor, see natural stone floors. Compare the two most requested stones in Marble or granite? and see how the stone reaches your country.

What stone works for an exterior facade?

The dense, low-porosity ones: granite, travertine and some quartzites. Outdoors, a lappato, brushed or flamed finish is the better choice, because rain and sun dull a polish over the years.

What is a ventilated stone facade?

It is a system where each slab hangs on stainless steel anchors a few centimeters from the wall. An air cavity between the stone and the wall carries away heat and moisture, so the wall stays dry.

How is a bookmatched marble wall done?

With two consecutive slabs from the same block, polished on opposite faces. Placed side by side, the vein mirrors across the joint like an open book. That is why the slabs are ordered together and approved in photos before cutting.

Do you ship facade stone to other countries?

Yes. We ship to any country, and when the project calls for it we also arrange installation. The slabs travel numbered to the layout, so each one arrives at its place on the facade.
