Calacatta marble

Marble · Italy

Large white fragments wrapped in wide, soft light gray veins: that is what Calacatta marble looks like, a white that comes from Italy. It shines in bathrooms and on walls; for a kitchen you have to accept the marks that use leaves.

What Calacatta Marble Looks Like

The pattern of this slab is built piece by piece: large white fragments end up wrapped by wide, soft light gray veins. The contrast is medium: the gray shows without covering the white background. Within this same slab the pattern changes noticeably. Each cut takes a different part, so it is best to choose the slab from its photo.

Calacatta Marble Finishes

On a white background with a brecciated pattern, the finish decides how much the surface shines and where each piece works best.

  • Polished

High shine: the white fragments catch the light and the gray veins read more sharply.

  • Honed

No reflection and soft to the touch: the choice for showers, vanities and floors that get wet.

  • Brushed

It leaves fine stripes and a firm feel; it adds grip on stairs and indoor floors.

  • Antiqued

It dulls the shine and gives the brecciated pattern an aged air; it pairs with the patina marble takes on over the years.

Questions About Calacatta Marble

Can I use Calacatta marble as a kitchen countertop?

It handles the daily work of a kitchen, but with one condition: over the years the surface takes on a patina, use marks that stay. A splash of lemon or wine leaves an opaque mark that cleaning will not remove: the stone reacts to acids. If you want a countertop with no marks at all, there are more forgiving stones on the natural stone for kitchens page.

How do you tell this Calacatta from Calacatta Oro?

The difference is in the veining: the Oro carries one golden ocher vein set on the diagonal, with fine branches; this Calacatta spreads large white fragments among wide, soft gray veins. In the Oro, color leads; here, shape does. See both slabs side by side on the Calacatta Oro page.

Does Calacatta marble work outdoors?

Outdoors, rain and sun dull the polish over time, so outside it only works with a honed finish. Indoors it keeps its finish, and the pattern shines on walls and in bathrooms.

What care does Calacatta marble need?

For everyday care, a cloth with water and neutral soap; dry anything acidic that lands on the white right away. Before you start using it, apply sealer if the water drop test shows the slab absorbs. Any marks that come with use can be fixed: marble can be polished again.

How does Calacatta marble reach my country?

We ship to any country, with the stone's documents of origin and its CE certification. On the shipping page we explain how it reaches each region.
