green onyx

Onyx · Iran and Pakistan

Beige and brown veins cross the pale green of the green onyx slab in the photo. The stone is translucent and made for indoors: a backlit wall, a vanity that sees little use, or a decorative table.

It is also known as Onice Verde.

What Green Onyx looks like

The pale green of this slab carries medium beige and brown diagonal veins and white clouds. A cream area appears at the top, and there is also a dark fissure. Contrast between veins and background is medium, while the pattern changes a lot within the slab. Polished and glossy in the photo, it is a translucent stone. No two slabs are alike: you choose yours from photos of the available slabs.

Green Onyx finishes

With onyx, the finish decides the sheen. Backlighting changes the face of the stone.

  • Polished

The sheen in the photo: a mirror surface over the pale green.

  • Backlit

With an even, cool light behind it, the slab lets light through and the veins light up.

  • Honed

Removes the polish reflection and leaves the slab matte.

Questions about Green Onyx

Does green onyx let light through?

Yes. The slab is translucent: an even, cool light behind lights up its veins without heating the stone.

Does green onyx work for floors?

No. It is a soft stone that marks with foot traffic and knocks. Its place is on walls, bar fronts, a vanity that gets little use, or a decorative table.

What is the difference between green onyx and Rainbow onyx?

The color of the veins. In its photo, Rainbow onyx is grayish green, crossed by branching orange and yellow veins. The green onyx slab in the photo is pale green, with beige and brown diagonal veins, white clouds and a cream area at the top.
