Colorado Gold marble

Marble · United States

The name promises gold and the slab says otherwise: Colorado Gold marble is grayish white, with a few fine dark gray veins running horizontally. A marble of quiet character, made for bathrooms and walls.

What Colorado Gold Marble looks like

A grayish white background crossed by a few fine dark gray veins that advance horizontally with soft waves; between them, beige touches come through. The dark gray, fine and scarce, keeps the contrast at medium; within this slab, the pattern changes moderately. No gold appears in this photo: Colorado Gold is a trade name, not a description of the color.

Colorado Gold Marble finishes

On such a light background, the finish decides how much the surface shines and how the dark vein reads.

  • Polished

A mirror on the grayish white: the dark veins read sharp; on wet floors it is slippery.

  • Honed

Matte and soft to the touch: it calms the pattern and is the choice for showers and floors.

  • Brushed

Fine lines and a firm feel: it takes the gloss off while keeping the pattern in view.

Questions about Colorado Gold marble

Why does Colorado Gold not look gold?

Because the gold is not in this slab: the photo shows a grayish white background with fine dark gray veins. Stone names do not always describe the color, so go by the photo, not the label. If you want a real golden vein, Calacatta Oro carries one in golden ocher, on the diagonal.

Colorado Gold marble or Colorado quartzite?

The family name is all they share: one is marble, the other quartzite. The quartzite is considerably harder; its pattern runs in lively cream and dark gray waves, with the occasional orange touch. This marble scratches more easily, but its wear marks can be polished out and the stone gets its gloss back.

Can Colorado Gold marble take a kitchen countertop?

It can, on one condition: accepting that the surface will show wear over the years. Kitchen acids, from tomato to lemon, leave a dull patch that scrubbing does not remove. And since it scratches more easily than granite, cut on a board. To compare other kitchen stones, see the stone for kitchens page.

What products do you clean Colorado Gold marble with?

The basics are enough: a cloth dampened with water and pH neutral soap. Wipe wine, lemon or tomato up right away and avoid acid cleaners: acid reacts with the polish and leaves a dull patch, not a stain that scrubs out. Sealer does not make the stone waterproof, but it reduces absorption: apply it if the drop of water darkens on the slab.

Is the photo I see a real Colorado Gold slab?

Yes: the page shows a real Colorado Gold slab, whole and with its close-up detail. Every marble slab is unique, so yours will carry its own pattern. Before you buy, we send you photos of the slabs available for your order.
