Carrara marble

Marble · Italy

A fine, diffuse gray network spreads the pattern across the whole slab: that is Carrara marble, a grayish white of low contrast that works best in bathrooms and on walls.

Also known as Bianco Carrara and Blanco Carrara.

What Carrara marble looks like

A grayish white background carries a network of fine, diffuse gray veins, spread at medium density over the whole surface. The pattern is cloudy and low in contrast: the gray strokes fade into the background. Within the slab, the gray network stays even from one area to the next. The photo shows the surface without a mirror shine: the texture you see is matte. Every slab builds its own network: the one in your order is chosen with photos.

Before approving the slab, ask for the photo of the finished piece: on a white with such a diffuse pattern, it pays to see where the gray network falls on each cut.

Carrara marble finishes

On a grayish white, the finish changes how much light the stone returns and how visible each stroke of the network is.

  • Polished

It returns the shine you expect from a marble and lights up the white; wet, the surface is slippery.

  • Honed

Matte and soft to the touch: the gray network softens and the surface slips less where there is water.

  • Brushed

It leaves a fine texture and removes the reflection entirely; useful on busy floors, where the polish wears away.

Questions about Carrara marble

How do you tell this Carrara from Carrara C?

This Carrara spreads the gray in a fine, diffuse network that covers the whole slab. Carrara C, by contrast, runs its fine veins parallel along the diagonal. Side by side, the order of the pattern changes: an even network against parallel lines.

Does Carrara marble hold up to everyday kitchen use?

It works if the patina convinces you: lemon or wine leaves a dull patch on the polish that cleaning does not remove, because it is a reaction, not a stain. Repolishing brings it back. If you do not want wear marks in the kitchen, the Marble or granite? guide compares this marble with granite.

What care does Carrara marble need?

Mild soap and water for daily cleaning, and wipe up lemon or wine right away if it spills. Sealer is worth it on a white this light: the stone absorbs, and the water drop test marks when to renew it. Whatever use leaves on the shine, repolishing restores.

Are Blanco Carrara and Bianco Carrara the same marble?

They are the same stone. Bianco Carrara and Blanco Carrara coexist in the market, and the slab arrives under one name or the other. The name does not change the pattern; what matters is the photo of the exact slab you are going to receive.

Do both photos show real slabs?

Yes: both photos are shots of a single Carrara slab, the whole slab and a close-up. Within the slab the gray pattern is evenly spread, so the close-up shows the same fine, diffuse network as the full photo. Before you buy, we send photos of the slabs available for your order.
