purple agate

Semi-precious stone · China

In the photo, large slices of blue-violet agate, with concentric bands and crystalline lilac centers, are joined by hand with resin on a backing. Purple Agate goes indoors, on accent walls and bar fronts.

It is also known as Purple Agate.

What the Purple Agate slab looks like

The mosaic of this slab is built with large agate slices: concentric bands around crystalline lilac centers. The background is blue-violet, and violet, blue, lilac and white share the slab. The contrast between bands and centers is high. Within the slab, the change from one slice to the next is strong. In the photo, the violets and lilacs carry the gloss of the polish.

To backlight Purple Agate, first check whether the real slab lets light through; the light source must never heat the resin.

Purple Agate polished or backlit

The violet slices in the photo come polished. Backlighting them requires the real slab to let light through.

  • Polished

The polish leaves the surface glossy and reflective, as the photo shows.

  • Backlit

The crystalline lilac centers can let some light through; the real slab confirms that.

Questions about Purple Agate

Is the Purple Agate slab a single stone?

No. The slab is assembled by hand: agate pieces are arranged and joined with resin on a backing. That mosaic of pieces is the pattern: it never looks like a continuous vein. Every panel comes out different and is chosen from photos.

What is Purple Agate?

Purple Agate is the same stone under another spelling. It is not another variety or another grade.

Can Purple Agate be backlit?

It can. The crystalline lilac centers in the photo make it possible for the slab to let some light through, but that shows on the real slab. If it lets light through, heat is the limit: the resin does not take it.

How is it different from amethyst?

Both are violet and for indoors. In its photo, amethyst shows dark violet crystals with white and lilac zigzag bands; Purple Agate reads as large slices with concentric rings and lilac centers. Use and care match: wall, table or vanity, never floor or outdoors.

How does a Purple Agate slab reach my country?

We ship to any country, with the stone's documents of origin and its CE certification. On the shipping page we explain how it reaches each region.
