blue agate

Semi-precious stone · Brazil

Concentric blue rings surround a white crystalline center in each slice of this blue agate slab. The panel is assembled by hand with resin and shines on interior walls and bar fronts.

It is also known as Blue Agate.

What the Blue Agate in the photo looks like

Agate slices fitted together in a mosaic form the slab in the photo, with concentric rings in intense blue and light blue around white, crystalline centers. Gray joins those blues and the white. The white of the centers against the intense blue creates high contrast, while the pattern changes moderately within the slab. The slices show the gloss of the polish, and their crystalline centers can let light through.

If you are going to put a light behind blue agate, plan an even source across the whole slab that does not heat it: the resin does not tolerate direct heat.

Blue Agate: polished or backlit

Blue agate is ordered polished, as in the photo, or prepared to carry a light behind it.

  • Polished

The one in the slab photo: gloss over the blue rings and the white centers of each slice.

  • Backlit

An even light behind can pass through the crystalline centers and change the mosaic completely.

Questions about Blue Agate

Is a Blue Agate slab a single stone?

No. It is assembled by hand from slices of natural agate bonded with resin onto a base. The pattern is a mosaic, not one continuous vein. Before you buy, we send you photos of the slabs available for your order.

Can Blue Agate be backlit?

Yes. Agate is one of the translucent stones, and in this slab's photo the white centers are crystalline. With an even light source behind, the panel can change completely.

What is different about Blue Agate with Gold Leaf?

The joints. In the photo of blue agate with gold leaf, each large slice is separated from the next by a gold joint. In this slab's photo there is no gold: the mosaic stays with blue rings, white centers and some gray.

What care does a Blue Agate slab need?

Agate is hard (6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale), but the resin that bonds the slices scratches sooner and does not take direct heat. Clean it with a soft cloth and water, use trivets on a table, and keep solvents and abrasive products away.

How does a Blue Agate slab reach my country?

We ship to any country, with the stone's documents of origin and its CE certification. On the shipping page we explain how it reaches each region.
