Ceppo marble

Marble · Italy

Gray, beige and black pebbles set in a gray matrix: that is Ceppo marble. It performs best in bathrooms and on walls; in the kitchen it works if you accept that the marble takes on marks of use over the years.

What Ceppo Marble Looks Like

The first thing the photo shows is the pebbles: gray, beige and black, of various sizes, set in a medium gray matrix. There are no veins: the whole pattern is that speckling of pebbles over the background. The contrast between the pebbles and the matrix is medium, and the surface looks matte, with no mirror reflection. Within this slab the spread of pebbles stays uniform from side to side.

On a long countertop, ask for photos of the whole slab before you approve the cut: the position of each pebble decides how the pattern turns out.

Ceppo Marble Finishes

On the gray matrix, the finish decides how much the surface shines and how the pebbles feel under your hand.

  • Polished

High shine: the matrix reflects light and the pebbles stand out with more contrast. On a wet floor, it slips.

  • Honed

Matte and smooth, with no reflections: the finish that makes sense where the surface gets wet.

  • Brushed

Brushing leaves a soft, even relief on the pebbles and keeps the matte tone.

  • Antiqued

Pronounced texture and no shine: it softens the contrast between the pebbles and the matrix.

Questions About Ceppo Marble

What is the difference between Ceppo marble and Ceppo di Gré?

Ceppo di Gré is a light gray with small beige and gray fragments spread across it. This Ceppo sets larger pebbles, black ones among them, in a medium gray matrix. If you want a lighter background and a finer pattern, Ceppo di Gré goes in that direction.

Can Ceppo marble take the work of a kitchen?

It works on one condition: that you accept the patina it takes on over the years, etching marks that can be polished out again. Acid from lemon, wine or tomato leaves a matte patch in the polish: it is not a stain but etched polish, so it does not come off with cleaning. The marble or granite guide explains why granite forgives that treatment better.

Does Ceppo marble need a sealer?

Sealing makes sense in the kitchen and the bathroom: the stone is porous and the sealer slows how much it absorbs, though it does not close it completely. Do the water drop test: if a dark shadow remains after a while, that piece wants a sealer before it goes into use. Daily cleaning is water and pH-neutral soap; save the acidic cleaners for another surface.

Are the pebbles in the photo from a real slab?

Yes: what you see are two shots of a real Ceppo marble slab, the whole piece and a close crop. Two slabs of the same marble are never the same, so yours may move some pebbles around. Before you buy, we send photos of the slabs available for your order.
