What Prometeus Marble Looks Like
Thin white and gold veins cross over the black background and form some white swirls. The crossing lines are what you see first: the whole look is high contrast. The polish in the photo gives the black a mirror reflection. Within one slab, the crossing of the veins changes moderately. As with any marble, the pattern does not repeat: the slab for your project is chosen from photos of the available ones.

Where does Prometeus marble work?
- BathroomsFull bathroom: glossy walls and vanity, matte shower
- WallsInterior walls where the pattern stays in view
- Interior floorsIndoors; honed or brushed where there is water
- TablesTables with a gloss; wipe up liquids right away
- KitchenIf you accept patina; lemon acid leaves a dull mark
- OutdoorsFor indoors: rain and sun dull the polish
- ScratchesLow
- StainsMedium, with sealer
- AcidsLow
A black background shows dust and water marks more than a light stone; everyday cleaning takes neutral soap and water.
Prometeus Marble Finishes
In this high-contrast stone, the finish decides how much the surface shines and how much grip it gives.
-
Polished
The mirror gloss in the photo comes from this finish, the glossiest of the list.
-
Honed
It takes out the reflection, leaves a soft touch and adds grip; the finish for a shower and a bathroom floor.
-
Brushed
It leaves the surface with no gloss and with grip: the other option for bathroom floors and showers.
-
Antiqued
A muted gloss and a soft touch: the finish farthest from the gloss in the photo.

Questions about Prometeus marble
How do I tell Prometeus apart from Nero Portoro marble?
Both combine black, white and gold, but the line work is not the same: in its photo, Nero Portoro carries a dense web of gold and white veins, while the Prometeus photo shows thin crossing veins and some white swirls. With photos of both slabs side by side, the difference is easy to see.
Can I use Prometeus marble in the kitchen?
You can, if you accept from the start that use will leave its patina. Lemon, vinegar or tomato leave a dull patch on the polish, a mark that cleaning does not remove. Also, a black background shows water drops and dust. If you want a surface that stands up better to acids, granite is the candidate: the Marble or granite? guide compares the two.
What care does Prometeus marble need?
Water with neutral soap covers everyday cleaning. Wipe up wine, lemon or vinegar right away: acid leaves a dull patch on the polish. For the sealer, run the water drop test: if the stone absorbs it and the spot darkens, it is time to seal.
Is the photo a real Prometeus slab?
Yes. The slab in the photo is a real Prometeus, with its polished surface. Keep in mind that the pattern differs on every marble slab. Before you buy, we send you photos of the slabs available for your order.
