Grigio Imperiale marble

Marble · Italy

Gray and whitish waves flow horizontally over a black background: that is the Grigio Imperiale marble slab in the photo. That movement is at home in bathrooms and interior walls.

It is also known as Grigio Imperiale.

What Grigio Imperiale marble looks like

Wavy bands of gray and grayish white run horizontally across the black background, dense and grainy in texture. The pattern is fluid and advances like moving currents, with high contrast between the black base and the bands. On this slab the pattern changes from one stretch to another. This way of spreading the waves changes on every slab, so yours is chosen from photos.

On the black of this slab, every drop that dries leaves its mark more visibly than on a light marble: wipe it down with a dry cloth after using the shower.

Grigio Imperiale marble finishes

The photo shows a glossy polish; honed, brushed and antiqued lower the shine and change the feel.

  • Polished

It is the one in the photo: the shiniest and smoothest of the four. Wet, it is slippery.

  • Honed

Matte and soft to the touch, with no reflections: what the shower and bathroom floors ask for.

  • Brushed

Fine parallel lines you can feel; like honed, it works where there is water.

  • Antiqued

A broken-in shine and a less smooth feel than polished: the aged-stone character this finish is after.

Questions about Grigio Imperiale marble

How is it different from Nero Pagoda marble?

In their photos, both are blacks with horizontal lines. Nero Pagoda carries fine, parallel gray lines, almost like wood. The Grigio Imperiale slab, instead, has dense wavy bands in gray and grayish white.

Does Grigio Imperiale work for a kitchen countertop?

Yes, as long as you accept patina: over the years the countertop takes the marks of daily use. Kitchen acids (lemon, wine, vinegar) mark the polish and leave a dull halo. Granite, next to it, stands up better to acids; the marble or granite guide explains the difference.

What care does this marble need?

Like every marble, it is porous: seal it according to how much it absorbs, with the water drop test. Daily cleaning is water and neutral soap; wipe up any splash of lemon or wine as soon as it lands. Marks left by use can be polished out again.

Why is it also known as Grigio Imperiale?

Because it is the same name written another way: Gris Imperial and Grigio Imperiale name the same stone. Before you buy, we send you photos of the slabs available for your order.

How does Grigio Imperiale reach my country?

We ship to any country, with the stone's documents of origin and its CE certification. On the shipping page we explain how it reaches each region.
