What Verde Imperiale Marble Looks Like
Fine light green veins cross a petrol green background with a bluish tint on the diagonal. The lines link into an irregular network of medium density: the contrast between vein and background is medium. Within this slab the distribution changes moderately, among dark bluish green, a medium green and a light green. The surface is polished: that is the sheen in the photo.

Where to Use Verde Imperiale Marble
- BathroomsFull bathrooms: showers, sinks and walls
- WallsInterior walls, where the network pattern shows at its best
- Interior floorsInterior floors; honed in bathrooms and showers
- TablesDaily-use dining tables; patina develops over the years
- KitchenOn countertops, only if you accept the patina
- OutdoorsNot its element: rain and sun dull the polish
- ScratchesLow
- StainsMedium, with sealer
- AcidsLow
For a bathroom or shower floor, ask for honed or brushed: wet polished stone is slippery. On a wall that risk does not exist; on a background this dark, dust shows.
Verde Imperiale Marble Finishes
On such a deep green, the finish decides the sheen and the feel of the surface.
-
Polished
The one in the photo: the highest sheen of the finishes, with a smooth surface and reflections on the green.
-
Honed
It removes the reflection and leaves a matte surface that feels soft: the right choice for bathroom floors and showers, where it is less slippery.
-
Brushed
Matte with texture: it leaves fine streaks to the touch and works for bathroom floors and showers, just like honed.

Questions About Verde Imperiale Marble
Are Verde Imperiale and Verde Imperial the same stone?
Yes. Verde Imperiale is another way of writing the trade name: both spellings name the same stone. Only the spelling changes, not the stone.
How do I tell Verde Imperiale apart from Breccia Imperiale?
In their photos, both are dark green marbles with a network pattern, but the vein colors are not the same. In its photo, Breccia Imperiale builds its network with straight white veins and scatters wine-red touches. The Verde Imperiale slab in the photo carries fine light green veins on the diagonal, no red, and a background that leans petrol.
Does Verde Imperiale marble work for a kitchen countertop?
It works if you accept the patina: over the years, the surface keeps the marks of use. The acid in a lemon, wine or tomato dulls the polish at that spot: it is a chemical reaction, not a stain. Cleaning does not remove it: repolishing brings it back. If the destination is the kitchen, the Marble or Granite? guide reviews the differences with granite.
Does Verde Imperiale need a sealer?
It depends on how much the stone absorbs: the water drop test tells you. If the green darkens under the drop, that piece gets a sealer, which reduces how much it absorbs but does not make it waterproof. Day to day, it asks little: water with pH-neutral soap. Because the background is so dark, dust shows on it sooner than on a light marble: a cloth now and then takes care of it.
