Tropical Storm quartzite

Quartzite · Brazil

Fine horizontal lines in white, gray and gold cross the black background of the slab in the photo in dense, high-contrast banding. Tropical Storm quartzite stands up to daily kitchen use and also works well in bathrooms, walls and tables.

What Tropical Storm Quartzite looks like

Across the black background run fine white, gray and gold lines, horizontal and parallel, so close together that the whole pattern reads as bands. That meeting of light strokes on black gives this slab its high contrast. It arrives with a glossy polish. Within the slab the pattern changes little: the lines keep their direction and density. Still, every slab is different, and the one that goes to your project is chosen from photos of the slabs available.

Tropical Storm Quartzite finishes

On a black stone with light lines, the finish decides how much the surface shines; the hardness of the stone does not change with any of them.

  • Polished

Mirror gloss: it is the finish in the photo, on the black and its light lines.

  • Honed

It removes the reflection and leaves a soft touch; it is the choice where there is water, because it is less slippery than polished.

  • Leathered

You feel the texture under your hand; the shine stays low.

Questions about Tropical Storm Quartzite

How does it differ from Negresco quartzite?

Both are black quartzites with light lines. In its photo, Negresco shows fine, sparse white veins running diagonally; on the Tropical Storm, the lines run horizontally, parallel and very close together, with gray and gold between the white. Spaced diagonal against tight banding: looking at the two photos, you can tell them apart at once.

Does Tropical Storm quartzite work in a kitchen?

Yes. As a true quartzite, it scratches glass, and a knife leaves no mark on it. Pot heat and everyday acids do far less to it than to marble. Even so, cut on a board: it protects the blade, not the stone.

Does Tropical Storm quartzite need sealer?

It depends on the slab: this stone's stain resistance is medium, and not all quartzites absorb alike. A drop of water on an offcut settles it: if the wet area darkened, it needs sealing. For daily cleaning, a damp cloth with neutral soap is enough.

Is the photo a real slab?

Real: the slab in the photo is a genuine Tropical Storm, shown whole and up close. Before you buy, we send you photos of the slabs available for your order.

How does Tropical Storm quartzite reach my country?
