Black Vermont quartzite

Quartzite · Brazil

In the photo, no vein breaks the anthracite gray of Black Vermont quartzite: the surface stays even, with barely visible horizontal streaks. It is a quartzite that stands up to daily kitchen use far better than a marble.

What Black Vermont Quartzite Looks Like

A nearly solid anthracite gray fills the slab in the photo. The pattern is smooth: no veins break it, only very faint horizontal streaks, barely visible. The tones run from anthracite gray to grayish black, with low contrast that keeps the surface even. The gray stays the same across the whole slab. The photo shows no reflection: the surface is matte.

With a cut-off piece you run two tests. If the stone darkens under the drop of water, that slab needs sealer; if it reacts to lemon, it carries calcite or dolomite.

Black Vermont Quartzite finishes

With a plain background, the choice between finishes comes down to gloss: how much the anthracite gray reflects.

  • Polished

Raises the gloss of the anthracite gray; on wet floors or in showers that gloss is slippery.

  • Honed

A matte, reflection-free surface that, where there is water, is less slippery than polished.

  • Leathered

A texture you can feel and a muted gloss, lower than polished.

Questions about Black Vermont Quartzite

Is Black Vermont quartzite the same as engineered quartz?

No. Quartzite is a quartz-rich sandstone: heat and pressure turned it into rock, a true natural stone. What is called engineered quartz is a manufactured agglomerate, not natural stone.

How does it differ from Black Tempest quartzite?

Both are dark quartzites. In its photo, Black Tempest carries gray waves and a diagonal line of large white patches; on Vermont, the anthracite gray stays almost smooth. If you want black with movement, the Tempest; if you want calm, this one.

Does Black Vermont quartzite work for a kitchen countertop?

Yes. The kitchen is its home ground: a knife does not mark it, and acid and heat matter far less than on a marble. Stain resistance is medium: place a drop of water on a cut-off piece, and if the stone darkens where it fell, that slab needs sealer. Cut on a board: what you protect is the edge.

Does the photo show a real slab?

Real: the photo shows a Black Vermont slab, alongside a close-up detail. As with any natural stone, yours may come in a slightly different gray: each piece is chosen one by one, from photos. Before you buy, we send you photos of the slabs available for your order.

How does Black Vermont quartzite reach my country?

We ship to any country, with the stone's documents of origin and its CE certification. On the shipping page we explain how it reaches each region.
