What Port Laurent marble looks like
The gold and white veins run parallel and diagonal across this slab, fine to medium in stroke. Their density over the charcoal gray background explains the high contrast. The polished finish in the photo concentrates the reflection; the pattern varies moderately within the same slab.

Port Laurent marble finishes
The photo shows polished; honed, brushed and antiqued leave less reflection and a different feel.
-
Polished
The finish in the photo: a mirror shine, the highest of the four.
-
Honed
Takes the shine down to a matte finish and leaves a soft touch; with brushed, the one that suits bathroom floors and showers.
-
Brushed
Brushing leaves a fine texture you can feel and lowers the reflection; like honed, it works on floors that get wet.
-
Antiqued
Matte with a rustic air, with a pronounced texture you can feel and almost no reflection.

Questions about Port Laurent marble
How do I tell Port Laurent apart from Nero Portoro and Prometeus?
All three carry gold and white lines over dark backgrounds; the resemblance ends there. In their photos, Nero Portoro builds a dense web of gold and white veining; Prometeus crosses the veins and adds white swirls. In the Port Laurent photo the veins run parallel and diagonal, over the charcoal gray background.
Can I use Port Laurent on a kitchen countertop?
You can, if you are fine with the surface collecting wear marks over time. Lemon, tomato or an acidic cleaner etch the polish of a countertop and leave an opaque mark. Granite, on the other hand, stands up better to acids: the marble or granite guide helps you compare.
How do you clean and seal Port Laurent?
Daily cleaning needs only water and neutral soap; an acidic cleaner would etch the polish just like lemon. Wipe up spills quickly: wine, coffee or tomato should not sit on the stone. To decide on sealer, drop water on the slab: if the area darkens as it absorbs it, it is time to seal. With sealer the slab absorbs less, though it stays porous.
Is the slab photo real?
Yes: that Port Laurent slab exists and the photo shows it polished, with the gold diagonal clearly marked. The close-up detail brings out the stroke of the gold and white veins. Every marble slab carries its own pattern, so it pays to choose yours with the photo in front of you. Before you buy we send photos of the slabs available for your order.
