malachite
Semi-precious stone · Democratic Republic of the Congo
Concentric bands of light and dark green and eye-like circles cover the emerald green of this slab. Malachite is built this way, piece by piece, and shines where it is seen up close: accent walls, tables and indoor vanities.
It is also known as Malakite.

What malachite looks like
Emerald green rules the slab in the photo, crossed by concentric bands of light and dark green. The pattern mixes bands and eye-like circles and varies a lot from one area of the slab to another. A mint green peeks through between the tones. The light tones cut hard against the dark: the contrast is high. The surface appears polished, with the gloss of the photo across all the green.

Where to use malachite?
- WallsAccent walls and headboards: the slab's main use
- TablesIndoor tables, with trivets
- BathroomsVanities and bathroom walls, away from direct water
- KitchenBetter not: the resin does not take stove heat
- Interior floorsNot on floors: traffic scratches the resin and the stone is soft
- OutdoorsNot outdoors: strong sun is hard on the resin
- ScratchesMedium
- StainsMedium
- HeatLow
Each semi-precious panel is smaller than a marble slab: on a large wall several are joined, so it is best to choose them together, looking at their photos.
The malachite finish
The slab in the photo comes polished. Malachite is not translucent, so it is not mounted with light behind it.

Polished
It is the one in the photo: the shine comes from the polish, the finish of a slab meant to be seen up close.

Questions about malachite
Is a malachite slab a single stone?
No. The slab is built piece by piece: pieces of natural malachite are arranged by hand and fixed with resin on a base. That handwork is what forms the bands and circles in the photo. The slab you receive carries its own layout of pieces and is chosen from photos.
What happens if I put a light behind malachite?
Not useful here: this slab is not translucent and light does not pass through it. The shine you see is the polish. For a panel with light behind it, green agate can let some light through, depending on what its real slab confirms.
How does it differ from Cipollino marble?
In the shape of the slab. In its photo, Cipollino is a whole-slab marble with wavy bands of dark and light green and an eye shape at the center. Malachite, in its own photo, joins concentric bands and circles in natural pieces arranged by hand and bonded with resin: its pattern is a mosaic, not one continuous vein.
How do you care for malachite?
Water and a soft cloth handle the daily cleaning. The slab does not forgive direct heat, solvents or abrasive cleaners: trivets under anything hot and a soft cloth always. No scouring pads: when scrubbed, the resin marks before the stone does.
How does malachite reach my country?
