Fior di Pesco Carnico marble

Marble · Italy

Wine-colored veins accompany thick white veins that cross the slab diagonally over a medium gray with a network of fine lines: that is Fior di Pesco Carnico. A high-contrast marble that shines above all on walls and in bathrooms.

Fior di Pesco Carnico, wine veins over medium gray

A medium gray covered by a dense network of fine gray lines sets the background for thick white veins that cross the slab diagonally. Alongside them runs the wine-colored vein, the stroke that jumps out at you in this slab. Between background and veins the contrast is high; the photo shows a polished finish. Variation within the slab is moderate: the network and the veins move, not the overall look.

Fior di Pesco Carnico Marble finishes

The photo shows the polished finish; the other finishes change the sheen and the touch, not the pattern.

  • Polished

The one in the photo: intense sheen that goes with the high contrast between the gray network and the veins.

  • Honed

No reflection: the surface stays matte and keeps grip where there is water, as in the shower.

  • Brushed

A relief of fine lines you can feel to the touch; the pattern stays in view.

  • Antiqued

An aged look: with no sheen, the medium gray softens the contrast of the pattern.

Fior di Pesco Carnico, question by question

How is it different from Fior di Pesco engineered marble?

The other three carry the Fior di Pesco name and are engineered marble: white, gray or dark fragments scattered like terrazzo. This Carnico is natural marble, and its pattern is diagonal white and wine-colored veins on gray. If you want fragments, the engineered ones; if you want veins, this one.

Does Fior di Pesco Carnico work in a kitchen?

It does, if you accept that it takes on patina over the years: a splash of lemon or vinegar leaves a dull mark on the polish; it is a chemical reaction, not a stain. If every mark bothers you, granite stands up better to acids; quartzite combines hardness with the look of marble. The full comparison is in Marble or granite?.

What care does this marble need?

Daily cleaning calls for pH-neutral soap and water. Wine or tomato gets wiped as soon as it lands: if acid stays on the surface, it leaves a mark. And if etching marks appear over time, a fresh polish removes them, because marble can be restored.

Is the photo above a real slab?
