What Velluto Onyx looks like
The background of this slab mixes gray and cream, with dense horizontal banding. Gray, white and beige take turns in the bands, and a grayish brown completes the palette. Contrast between the bands is medium. The pattern changes moderately within the slab, and each slab carries different bands: on large walls, consecutive slabs are ordered, bookmatched. The photo shows the glossy polish; the transparency, which is possible, is confirmed on the real slab.

Velluto Onyx finishes
The finish sets how much the slab shines; a light behind decides how much the banding lights up.
-
Polished
The one in the photo: a sharp shine, with clean reflections on the bands.
-
Honed
Leaves a soft matte feel: on a wall with direct light it reflects less than polished.
-
Backlit
The star use of onyx: with a cool, even source behind, the bands light up if the slab lets light through.

Questions about Velluto Onyx
How do I tell Velluto onyx apart from Vulcano onyx?
By the direction of the pattern. In its photo, Vulcano onyx is blue-gray, with light wavy patches that fall vertically. Velluto, in its own photo, runs its tight bands horizontally, with a wavy edge. Both are gray: the direction of each pattern decides the difference.
Can you put light behind Velluto onyx?
Yes: with light behind is where onyx looks best. The transparency is confirmed on the real slab: before you buy, we send you photos of the slabs available for your order. The light source runs cool and even, so it does not heat the stone.
How do you clean Velluto onyx?
Caring for it is simple: a soft cloth and neutral soap for cleaning, the water dried off well at the end, and acid or abrasive cleaners always out. Moisture left on the piece ends up leaving marks. Faced with lemon or vinegar, it reacts like marble: acid etches it.
Does Velluto onyx work for a kitchen countertop?
Not where you cut and set things down: onyx is soft and acid marks it like marble. In a kitchen it works on the wall or on the front of the bar, away from the work zone. For the countertop there are harder stones: the kitchen page compares the options.
How does Velluto onyx reach my country?
We ship to any country, with the stone's documents of origin and its CE certification. On the shipping page we explain how it reaches each region.
