Pietra Ducale marble

Marble · Italy

Small fossils and brown dots are scattered over a yellowish cream background: that is the slab in the photo of Pietra Ducale marble, with no veins and low contrast. Its place is in the bathroom and on the interior walls of the house.

What Pietra Ducale marble looks like

Small fossil fragments and brown dots are scattered over the yellowish cream background, with no vein crossing the slab. The contrast stays low: the beige and light brown touches sit quietly beside the cream and nothing stands out over the rest. Within this slab the fragments are spread evenly. The photo shows the stone in a matte finish: every fossil is visible, with no reflections covering it.

Pietra Ducale marble finishes

The photo comes in matte; the finishes change the shine of the surface and what you feel when you run your hand over it.

  • Polished

Raises the shine to the maximum over the cream; choose it for walls and vanity tops, not for the shower floor.

  • Honed

Removes the reflection and softens the feel; ask for it in the shower and on the bathroom floor.

  • Brushed

Leaves a fine, barely visible scratching and a low shine; another matte option for house floors.

Questions about Pietra Ducale marble

How does it differ from Alma marble?

Both are cream marbles with a fossil pattern, but the base color changes: in its photo, Alma has a greenish cream background with olive fossil inclusions, scattered and soft; in the Pietra Ducale photo the cream is yellowish, with small fragments and brown dots. Compare the two patterns in the slab photos of Alma marble.

How does Pietra Ducale hold up on a kitchen countertop?

It holds up to the heat of daily use, but lemon juice, vinegar or tomato etch the shine and leave a dull patch; repolishing fixes it, because it is a chemical reaction and not a stain. As a countertop it works if you accept that it takes on patina over the years. For a kitchen that wants no patina, granite stands up better to acids: the marble or granite guide compares the two.

Does Pietra Ducale marble need a sealer?

It depends on how much it absorbs: the sealer makes the marble absorb less, it does not make it waterproof. Before sealing, drop some water on the slab: if the wet spot darkens, that marble is asking for a sealer. With a cream background it pays to stay on top of it, because any stain shows right away. Clean with water and a neutral soap; wipe wine, coffee or lemon dry right away.

Is the photo a real slab?

Yes: what you see in the photo is a real slab of Pietra Ducale, complete and also up close. Every marble slab carries its own spread of fossils, so yours will not be identical. Before you buy we send you photos of the slabs available for your order.
