Notre Dame marble

Marble · Italy

A breccia with strong contrast in the slab photo: gray and salmon pink fragments set between thick, sinuous black veins. Notre Dame marble works above all on walls and in bathrooms, where the full pattern does the work.

What Notre Dame Marble Looks Like

Black leads on this slab: thick, sinuous veins wrap gray and salmon pink fragments over a gray background. The pattern is brecciated and the contrast is high: the black outlines each fragment, and with the high polish in the photo the surface throws light back with force. The pattern changes strongly within this slab. Each slab brings a different breccia, so it is best to pick yours from photos.

The water drop tells you when to seal: if the stone darkens under it, the Notre Dame is absorbing and asking for sealer.

Notre Dame Marble Finishes

The photo is in a high polish; the other finishes tone down the reflection and change the feel of the same breccia.

  • Polished

The one in the photo: high shine that throws light back; slippery when wet.

  • Honed

It takes the shine away from the photo version and leaves a matte feel, the practical choice for showers and wet floors.

  • Brushed

A firm feel with fine lines; the sheen sits halfway between polished and matte.

Questions about Notre Dame Marble

How does it differ from Macchia Vecchia marble?

Macchia Vecchia builds greenish gray fragments with large rust-red blotches and white veins. In the Notre Dame photo the palette stays within gray, salmon pink and black: its thick veins enclose the fragments. The photos decide: look at the Macchia Vecchia marble slab and you can tell right away which of the two breccias fits your project.

How does Notre Dame marble hold up in a kitchen?

It asks only one thing: accept that patina, those marks of use, stay on the surface. Lemon, wine or tomato leave a dull mark on the countertop that cleaning does not remove: it is marble's chemical reaction to acid. For a countertop that takes a lot of acid, granite is more forgiving. On the kitchen page we explain what to expect from each stone.

What care does Notre Dame marble need?

Wash it with water and neutral soap and wipe up wine, lemon or tomato fast. Sealer reduces how much the stone absorbs, but it does not make it waterproof: reapply it if the water drop starts to darken the stone. Over the years the marble takes a patina that can be polished out again.

Is the photo a real slab?

Yes. They are photos of real Notre Dame stone: the full slab and a close-up of the pattern. Each slab carries its own breccia. Before you buy, we send you photos of the slabs available for your order.

How does Notre Dame marble reach my country?

We ship to any country, with the stone's documents of origin and its CE certification. On the shipping page we explain how it reaches each region.
