Nero Portoro marble

Marble · Italy

A dense web of gold and white veins covers the deep black: that is Nero Portoro marble. The contrast is high and defines the stone: it works best in bathrooms and on walls, where you see the whole slab.

It is also known as Negro Portoro.

What Nero Portoro Marble Looks Like

A dense, irregular web of gold and white veins spreads over the deep black background, in fine to medium strokes. The slab in the photo is polished, and the shine shows that web clearly, in high contrast against the black. Within the slab the pattern changes in moderation; each slab carries its own web, so you choose from photos of the available slabs.

After each use, a pass with a dry cloth: on a black marble, dust and dried drops stay in view.

Nero Portoro Marble Finishes

On a background this dark, the finish changes how the surface reflects light and how strong the gold veins look.

  • Polished

The finish in the photo: it deepens the black and lifts the shine of the gold veins.

  • Honed

It tones down the polish shine and leaves a soft touch; the finish a shower and a floor ask for.

  • Brushed

Fine brush strokes that lower the reflection; a calmer black for indoor floors.

  • Antiqued

It looks lived-in from the start; marks from use join the pattern.

Questions About Nero Portoro Marble

Are Negro Portoro and Nero Portoro the same stone?

Yes, they are two forms of the same trade name: nero and negro mean the same thing. The stone is one; you can order it by either name.

How do I tell Nero Portoro apart from Sahara Noir?

They do not look alike. Sahara Noir carries very fine, straight and sparse gold lines over a brownish black; Nero Portoro spreads a dense, irregular network of gold and white veins over the deep black.

Does it work for a kitchen countertop?

It works if you accept a patina over the years: lemon, wine or tomato etch the polish with a dull patch that cleaning will not remove. If you want a surface that never shows a mark, this marble is not the choice.

What cleaning and sealing does Nero Portoro need?

Clean it with water and neutral soap; acidic cleaners etch the polish, so they stay out. A drop of water on the stone decides the sealer: if the slab absorbs it, apply it before the surface goes into service.

How does Nero Portoro marble reach my country?

We ship to any country, with the stone's documents of origin and its CE certification. On the shipping page we explain how it reaches each region.
