Lavagrigia basalt

Basalt · Italy

An even salt and pepper grain covers the purplish gray of the Lavagrigia basalt slab. Dense volcanic stone: it works in high traffic floors, facades and kitchens.

What Lavagrigia Basalt looks like

The gray of this slab leans purple: a medium background covered by a salt and pepper grain, with some larger white dots. The close shot shows small pores. Contrast is medium and the grain spreads evenly, with no busier patches.

Lavagrigia Basalt finishes

None of the four reaches a mirror gloss: what changes between them is the texture and the feel.

  • Honed

Smooth and matte to the touch: with this finish the stone works in kitchens and bathrooms.

  • Brushed

Brushing softens the face; like honed, it resists slipping when wet and is used on outdoor floors and facades.

  • Flamed

Flame leaves the face rough and matte, an open texture you notice when you run your hand over it.

  • Bush-hammered

Blows from a pointed hammer mark the face and leave the surface rough.

Questions about Lavagrigia Basalt

How is it different from black granite?

Black granite usually comes speckled and takes a glossy polish; Lavagrigia, in its photo, keeps an even salt and pepper grain, with no veins. Even closer is Basaltite basalt: in its photo it is a very uniform greenish gray with isolated white specks, while the Lavagrigia slab leans purple and carries some larger white dots.

Does it work for outdoor floors?

Yes: the stone is dense and hard and handles traffic, frost and sun; routine outdoor cleaning takes a brush and water. In matte or brushed it resists slipping in the rain and is used on outdoor floors and facades.

Does Lavagrigia Basalt need sealer?

In the kitchen, yes: stain resistance is medium and sealer is part of caring for the stone. Outside the kitchen, routine care takes water and pH neutral soap; outdoors, a brush and water.

Is the slab in the photo real?

Real: the photo shows a genuine Lavagrigia slab, with the salt and pepper grain and the pores in view. Each slab carries its own pattern. Before you buy, we send photos of the slabs available for your order.
