Does Fusion Red quartzite stand up to daily kitchen use?
Yes: it is a stone for kitchens that get real use. Glass scratches against this surface; the kitchen knife, on the other hand, leaves no mark. Against lemon, vinegar, and the heat of a pot it behaves far better than marble. Still, work with a cutting board: it is not the stone you protect, it is the edge of the knife.
How do I check that the stone is real quartzite?
The test is simple: a drop of lemon on a cut-off piece of the slab. Some stones sold as quartzite contain calcite or dolomite and react to acids. If the stone reacts, that piece contains calcite or dolomite and acids affect it: keep that in mind before you put it in the kitchen.
Does Fusion Red quartzite need sealer?
It depends on the stone: not all quartzites absorb the same, so sealer is checked with a drop of water. When the stone darkens where the drop falls, that piece asks for sealer. Against stains this stone sits in the middle: sealer holds that performance in the kitchen and the bathroom.
