Why is it called Fantasy Brown if the slab looks gray?
Because the name is a trade name and does not describe the color of the slab. The real slab shows a light gray background with elongated white clouds, diffuse dark gray bands in a soft diagonal, and some gray-brown streaks. If you want brown to lead, this slab does not bring it: the brown stays as streaks inside the gray.
Does Fantasy Brown work for a kitchen countertop?
Yes, as long as you accept that the countertop will develop a patina over the years. Lemon, vinegar or tomato leave a dull mark on the polish, and the stone scratches more easily than granite; that mark is corrected by repolishing the piece. It depends on how much the slab you receive absorbs: the test is to drop a little water on it and see if the stone darkens. If it darkens, seal before you start using the surface. Sealer reduces absorption, it does not eliminate it: wine or coffee still calls for quick drying.
