What Azul Calcite Marble Looks Like
Thick gray-blue crystals on white: instead of veins, the pattern is built by the crystals themselves, and a whiter band crosses it in diagonal. The contrast is medium, and the overall read is a light gray-blue slab, with a pattern that varies moderately within the same slab.

Azul Calcite Marble Finishes
With crystals like these, the finish decides how much the surface shines and whether light can enter from behind.
-
Polished
It lifts the surface's shine; slippery when wet, so think twice about floors and showers.
-
Honed
A matte surface without the mirror of a polish; this is the finish for showers and wet bathroom floors.
-
Backlit
If the slab lets light through, the crystals light up when it is mounted with a light behind; you check it by seeing the slab.

Questions about Azul Calcite Marble
Why is it called Azul Calcite?
Calcite is one of the minerals marble is formed from. The trade name points to that mineral. In the slab in the photo, the whole pattern is crystals, with no veins. The blue in the name is the grayish tone of those crystals.
How is it different from Azul Cielo marble?
Both stones are blue, but the patterns are nothing alike. Azul Cielo is a nearly uniform pale sky blue with a fine grain; Azul Calcite builds its pattern from thick crystals and a diagonal white band. If you want an even background, Azul Cielo; if you want crystal texture, Azul Calcite.
Does Azul Calcite marble hold up as a kitchen countertop?
Yes, it holds up on one condition: the surface takes a patina over years of kitchen use. A squeeze of lemon or a drop of wine leaves a dull mark on the polish; granite is harder and handles acids and scratches better. If you want a countertop with no marks at all, read the marble or granite guide before you decide.
What care does Azul Calcite marble need?
pH-neutral soap and water are enough to care for this surface; any acid spill gets dried right away. A drop of water measures the porosity: if the slab drinks it in fast, it is time to seal before you use the surface. The marks that come with the years have a remedy: the marble is polished again and recovers its shine.
