What Tanzanite quartzite looks like
Dense turquoise grains cover a blue-green background, and a diagonal rust red band crosses them: that meeting of cool and warm is the first thing you notice in the slab in the photo. The contrast stays medium. Variation within the slab is moderate: look at photos before choosing your piece. The photo shows the polished finish; light does not pass through the stone.

With a band this strong, the cut matters: on an island or a long wall, look at how the diagonal runs in the photo of each piece.
Tanzanite quartzite finishes
No finish touches the hardness of the quartzite; what changes is how much the surface shines and how it feels.
-
Polished
The one in this photo: full shine over the turquoise speckling.
-
Honed
Takes down the shine of the polish and leaves the surface matte: the option for showers and floors.
-
Leathered
Textured surface with relief you can feel; the shine sits below polished.

Questions about Tanzanite quartzite
Is Tanzanite quartzite blue?
Not entirely. Tanzanite is a trade name: in the slab in the photo, the color comes from turquoise grains on a blue-green background and a rust red band. Do not choose it by the name alone: the tone is confirmed in the photo of the slab.
How does it differ from Green Luise quartzite?
Both mix turquoise with rust red. In its photo, Green Luise quartzite builds oxide and ochre veins into an irregular grid; in yours, Tanzanite stays with the dense speckling and gathers the rust into one diagonal band.
Does Tanzanite hold up to the daily life of a kitchen?
Yes: in the kitchen the hardness of quartzite plays in your favor: a knife passes without marking it, and the heat of a pot, lemon or vinegar do far less to it than to a marble. Countertops are among the jobs where it performs best. Natural stone for kitchens compares more stones for that job.
Does Tanzanite quartzite need sealer?
It may: porosity varies from one quartzite to another, and this stone's stain resistance is average, with sealer. The water drop on an offcut gives the answer: if the stone turns darker right under the drop, that piece calls for sealer.
Is the photo a real slab?
Real: the slab and the close-up are photos of one and the same Tanzanite slab. Before you buy we send you photos of the slabs available for your order.
