What Pietra Lavica Basalt Looks Like
Anthracite gray and black blend into a very fine grain that covers this slab without a single vein. There is barely any contrast between that gray and the black. Within the slab the color of Pietra Lavica stays uniform. The surface in the photo shows pores, the kind volcanic stones can have.

Pietra Lavica Basalt Finishes
The four finishes of Pietra Lavica are matte: they change the texture, the feel and how slippery the surface is.
-
Honed
Matte and soft to the touch: the finish for countertops, sinks and interior floors.
-
Brushed
Firm feel and no shine; like the matte finish, it slips little on outdoor floors and wet areas.
-
Flamed
Flaming leaves the surface rough: an outdoor finish, for terraces and facades.
-
Bush-hammered
Struck with a point, it leaves a pronounced texture for stairs and outdoor floors.

Questions About Pietra Lavica Basalt
How is it different from black granite?
In the finish and the pattern. Black granite usually comes polished and speckled. In its photo, Pietra Lavica is an even anthracite gray, very fine-grained and without veins. Among the similar stones, Nero Africa granite is, in its photo, a fine-grained black with a light gray speckle.
Does Pietra Lavica Basalt need sealer in the kitchen?
Yes, in the kitchen it is worth sealing: stain resistance is medium and sealer holds it up against oil, wine or coffee. Day to day, a damp cloth and neutral soap are enough.
Does it get hot in the sun?
It can: a very dark basalt picks up heat from the sun outdoors in a warm climate. On facades and walls that does not change its use. On pool coping in full sun in a tropical climate, though, it becomes uncomfortable underfoot.
Is the photo a real Pietra Lavica slab?
Real: what you see is a slab of this basalt, with its pores on the surface. Before you buy, we send you photos of the slabs available for your order.
