Lavarosa basalt
Basalt · Italy
A fine grained pinkish taupe, with tiny pores, covers the slab photo of Lavarosa basalt. It is dense and hard: it handles traffic, sun and frost and works just as well on facades, outdoor floors and kitchens.

Lavarosa Basalt, volcanic stone in a taupe tone
The first thing you notice is the color: a taupe brown with a pink base, outside the grays and blacks that dominate volcanic stones. The slab in the photo carries a fine, even grain, with faint streaks and small white and rust colored inclusions spread evenly. Contrast is low and there are no marked veins. Tiny pores show on the slab, as in some volcanic stones. The whole surface repeats the same grain.

Lavarosa Basalt finishes
All four finishes on this basalt are matte: the choice comes down to texture, feel and where it will be used.
-
Honed
Matte and smooth to the touch; it suits countertops, sinks and interior floors.
-
Brushed
The passes of the brush soften the face; the surface stays firm and resists slipping in wet areas.
-
Flamed
Torch heat opens the grain and leaves a rough surface, made for outdoor paving and facades.
-
Bush-hammered
Picked with a hammer: a pronounced texture, designed for outdoor floors.

Questions about Lavarosa Basalt
How is it different from a pink granite?
They are different stones: Lavarosa is a basalt, a fine grained volcanic rock that reads pinkish taupe in its photo. In its photo, Rosa Porriño granite looks more salmon, with black dots. In its own, Limbara granite mixes white and black crystals over a brownish pink grain.
Does it work for a terrace floor or pool coping?
Yes: basalt is dense and stands up to frost, sun and the traffic of a terrace. In matte or brushed the surface resists slipping, which is why this kind of stone is used on outdoor floors, pools and facades.
Does Lavarosa Basalt need sealer in the kitchen?
It helps: this basalt handles the scratches and acids of a kitchen well. Stains are what need attention; sealer is what keeps that resistance at a medium level. Daily cleaning takes a damp cloth and pH neutral soap.
Is the photo a real slab?
It is: the photo shows a real Lavarosa basalt slab. Before you buy, we send photos of the slabs available for your order.
